Bouncy Castle Vs Trampolines
Time: 2019-02-18 13:48
Both bounce houses and trampolines are great backyard toys for children, but trampolines are more dangerous than the inflatable structure can be.
bouncing trampoline for childrenSummer is coming and many families are considering to make their backyard a great playground for their children. The most popular jumping toys for garden are bouncy castles and trampolines. Both are great fun, great for exercise and are surprisingly affordable. So which one do you choose if you can only buy one of them for your kids? Regardless of the great benefits of both, let us compare the two products from the safety.

A bouncy castle is fully inflated and surrounded by safety walls and nets and roof, so a child jumping inside will not fly out of the jump house and fall onto the ground to cause injury. But a trampoline is only surrounded by safety nets without any roof and strong safety walls, the trampoline mat with springs has greater bounce power, so a bouncing kid is much easier to fly out of the safety nets than a bounce house. In addition, unlike inflatable structure, most trampolines' structure is made of steel, which is another safety hazard. You can tell their safety from the appearance.

Some people may say that they have enough protective padding on the trampoline to keep the kids safe. But sometimes these pads and nets aren't much help. The padding on the springs may be able to prevent some scrapes, but it will not going to keep you from fracturing your collarbone. And the metal accessories on your trampoline are rusting away over time, losing crucial joints and shedding padding until no one wants to play with it. The proper maintenance is check all equipment often and replace all damaged parts, but when was the last time anyone did that?

Thousands of children are injured on trampolines each year, and most of these trampoline injuries happen on home trampolines. The common injuries include broken necks, spinal injuries, concussions and disabling head trauma, dislocated bones, sprains/strains, bruises and scrapes, in the worst-cast scenarios, kids end up with spinal cord injuries, paralysis or are even killed. The younger or smaller a child is, the more likely they are to get seriously hurt. One in 200 trampoline accidents will lead to a child suffering permanent neurological damage. At 13,000 injuries every year, around 65 children in the UK will be left with a serious injury that will permanently affect their lives and the lives of their families.

In 2012, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) cautioned against the use of home backyard trampolines for children. Top bone surgeon, Amir Ali Qureshi, from the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust says "The use of nets gives children and their parents a false sense of security, but injuries are common even with trampolines that come with safety netting." So as a parent, is it worth the risk of a life destroying injury for your kids to jump on a trampoline?

Although playing on a bouncy castle also carries some risk of injuries, but they are more safe than the trampolines in design and installation. Kids under six just shouldn’t be on trampolines, but they can enjoy safe bouncing on a bounce house. So if you want to build a fun bouncing part in the backyard for your kids, try to set up bouncy castles and inflatable water slides or other inflatable bouncers.
