How to Inflate an iSUP with Electric/Manual Pump
Time: 2019-07-29 14:02
Step by step guides to inflate an inflatable stand up paddle board or inflatable boat with a manual pump and an electric pump.
In the previous post, we talked about the difference between electric pump and manual pump for inflatable boats, kayaks and SUP boards. We know that both of them have their own advantages and disadvantages and you can always find a most suitable pump for your inflatable watercraft wherever you need. Today we will talk about how to use an electric pump and a manual pump to inflate your stand up paddle board so that you can enjoy the water smoothly during this the seasons.

Let's pump up your inflatable stand up paddle board with a dual action hand pump which can be used to inflate and deflate.

1. Use the inflate mode first, connect the hose securely to the lower chamber of the hand pump.

2. Rotate the valve stem of your SUP board to the up position, and then connect the hose to the valve, push down while turning clockwise until it won't turn anymore. Now it's ready to inflate.

3. Insert the little plug to your pump chamber for pumping on both the down and up stroke. Then you can start pumping with your arms and knees. Take regular breaks as needed.

4. When you feel pumping on the up stroke is difficult, remove the plug so that you can pumping air only on the down stroke, this will make the pumping easier at higher pressures.

5. Watch the gauge on the pump to know when you have reached the desired pressure, usually 15-17 PSI.

6. When the air pressure valve reaches the desired range, the pumping is completed. You can remove the hose from the SUP board valve, push down and turn counter-clockwise.

7. Use a handheld pressure gauge to verify inflation pressure without air loss.

8. Insert the valve cover to protect the valve stem and prevent accidental deflation.

A common 12V DC inflator can take the labor out of pumping your stand up paddle board so you can save your energy for water paddling. Usually you can power it with your car batteries in the outdoor.

1. Insert the 12V plug into your vehicle's lighter socket. The vehicle should be running to avoid draining the battery.

2. The electric pump can also be used for both inflation and deflation. Attach the hose securely to the pump outlet marketed "INFLATE".

3. Rotate the valve stem of your SUP board to the up position, and then connect the hose to the valve, push down while turning clockwise until it won't turn anymore.

4. Set the selector knob of the electric pump to the desired inflation pressure and press the "ON" button.

5. When starting pumping air into your SUP board at low pressure, the electric pump will make a "whirring" sound. And when the pressure gets near 1 PSI, the pump will change gears and the pumping sound will change.

NB: The needle will vibrate back and forth rapidly during the second stage of pumping. This is normal behavior.

6. When the set inflation pressure is reached, the pump will automatically turn off. The inflation time to 15 PSI is typically 10-15 minutes. The inflation pressure indicated on the gauge may vary up to 1 PSI from the setting on the selector knob.

7. Verify your inflation pressure with a handheld gauge and insert the valve cover.

How to deflate your iSUP?

1. Whether you are using a manual pump or an electric pump, the first step to deflate is the same. Push in the valve stem and turn clockwise 1/4 turn to put the valve in the open position.

2. After most of the air has escaped, the pump can be used to remove any remaining air. Connect one end of the hose to the valve as in the step of inflating.

3. For manual pump, connect another end of the hose to the upper chamber securely and make sure the plug is removed. For electric pump, connect the hose to the the outlet marked "DEFLATE". Then start pumping to remove all remaining air from the board.

The above inflation and deflation guides of manual pump and electric pump are suitable for all air sealed watercraft, like inflatable dinghy, inflatable kayak, inflatable SUP board, banana boat, flying fish boat, inflatable pool, water park floating games, etc. Contact sunjoy today to get an inflatable solution of water sports!
